My Mirror Reflection |

We faced each other ear-to-ear, but chose not to hear, deaf to each other’s pain and passion, persistent in the pursuit of our own agendas. And I wondered – is this what being an adult is all about? Faces set, we mimicked the other like children who never learned that we were fighting to lose. Sadly, we only talked more stridently, and ignored the pain of underlying emotions; oblivious to any words we did not speak. Voices pushed opinions like shopping carts careening out of control. What did make us stop? Did our inner voices scream a warning if we walked away we would be haunted by a loss too great to bare? We will always be strong and opinionated, you and I - maybe always at odds. Funny how we seem to accept those same differences that try to overwhelm us. Funny how we grow closer and, yet, know so little about the other. Funny, it’s as if we are the reflection of the other; and that realization brings the most discomfort. If we see and recognize, maybe we have to initiate change. Maybe we have to assume responsibility, and maybe, sometimes, you make me squirm. ... Alison |

Alison, This is kind of cool. I like the vision of careening shopping carts. That sounds like fun. Bobby |

Funny how we grow closer and, yet, know so little about the other. With all the apparent closeness, on deeper levels we have to face totally different landscapes and sometimes we just don't want to believe the mirror reflections. Very interesting reflections, dear Alison. I can relate. Love, Margherita |

A, it's the things we don't like about people that make them the ones we love J |

"persistent in the pursuit of our own agendas" That says it all, I'm afraid. As always, you offer some very fine imagery: "Voices pushed opinions like shopping carts careening out of control." |

Voices pushed opinions like shopping carts careening out of control. ~*~ Great imagery, Alison. I think this fits more people than you could even imagine. Especially the squirming part. Well done! |

as always, VERY 'well writ!'... I am particularly fond of: "Funny how we grow closer and, yet, know so little about the other." [one could even apply the above wise observation (in modified form) to oneself!] applause!! |

RDB Thank you, girl friend. I love you too. Your words make a glow inside me on a gray, cool day. xoxoox Ali ------ Bruce, Thank you. Sometimes wisdom is born from pain. That was a painful night - the night that I wrote this. I sent it on to the other person a few days later. We both have grown from that heated discussion. Thank you so much for all your comments and for reading my poetry. Alison |
