Lumpy oatmeal makes me crazy!

0 posted 2008-03-19 02:16 AM

I plant a magical, hidden garden behind a secret door
and fill it with clashing flower plants that I so adore.
I plant Dahlias, Shasta Daisies and Chokecherry trees;
carpets of colorful Moss Roses bordering red Tiger Lilies.
Scarlet Runners race Sweet Peas up inner walls high,
while Sun Flowers stare the sun fearlessly in the eye.

Fresia fragrance spills in the air, mingling with the roses;
Lazy Susans primp flirtatiously while perfecting subtle poses.
Peonies, plump, smile winsome Madonna smiles, mysterious,
while Johnny Jump-Up’s and Pansies attempt to look serious.
My garden is a haven; a quiet place for me to read
and celebrate miracles of life, grown from each little seed.

It's a simple place of solitude, secluded from the daily rush,
I cherish jeweled raspberries hidden delicately within a shady bush.
Birds nesting among the tree branches, singing soprano sweet;
Honey Bees hum, gathering nectar; one of nature’s amazing feats.
A secret flower garden to share with my family and friends,
a gift where love abounds in the sanctuary that I tend.

Your secret garden sounds like my kind of place, Alison. I love growing things. I am planting and replanting right now for my secret garden where I love to spend my time in the summer among my flowers and plants.

Alison,

This is a good start.  I'd go over it and try and smooth out some of the forced rhymes.

For you, I'll serve a chilled glass of wine to enjoy while we sit and watch the sun go down.

D,

No billy weeds, I am sorry - but you can be D-weed.  How about a dandelion.  I love dandelions.

yann,

Thank you.  You are so right - sometimes flowers are germanated in poetry and then transplanted to gardens later.

SEA,

I liked the book when I was little - but I fell in love with it as an adult.  I still love The Little Princess too.  (smiles)

I love the garden imagery, especially "peonies, plump, smile winsome..." and "...fragrance spills in the air, mingling with the roses".  beautiful phrases!

Alison, I can see it, smell it, and feel it - and it's beautiful!  The bad news is that it's no longer a "secret" garden but thank you for sharing it.
