The Funeral Procession

I saw a thing the other day
that made me stop to contemplate
ceasing all other goings-on in mind,
pulling off roadside to wait
for the many pairs of eyes
that mourn the passed to pass
this ordinary thing, a common sight,
somewhat different staring through the glass .

I thought of why we do this, questions
never entered prior about that thing I was seeing
all came still momentarily, to show respect,
a mutual mourning of a human being
a mere mortal, one of our own
one like me and you
family and friends and person
we never even knew,
remaining unenlightened
despite passing through our view
we do not bother to ask
who we give our silence to.

All we see is the gray
we do not separate the black and white,
red-yellow, Christian-Jew,
man-woman, wrong or right,
uneducated-Harvard grad,
unexperienced-old and wise,
no matter good or criminal
we are neutral to the passing eyes.

In life atop the soil
the countless wars of hate
differ vastly from this thing
I stopped to contemplate.
and what has brought me to such a state?
...to think how every one of us would be
living an eternal, infernal tragedy

if heaven were to ever choose
to discriminate.

A wonderful write my friend and one worth yet another think, your mind is indeed working overtime at the moment Dixie, seeing many things once ignored.
Loved the four lines here, thanks for sharing.

Good frame of mind you are in.. Good to read you again and know you are wearing that hat you used to wear. The one that is filled with thoughts and words and new ideas. You Are Loved.
