Where

I come from a line of travelers
with beginnings in a small town of
higher education;
blowing fall leaves and snowy country roads

I am from Grammy’s kitchen,
a cast-iron stove and deep fried donuts,
pies ... the best for miles,
the kind that legends are made of.
I’m made from hearty blue bloods
that came across the ocean from
Scotland, England and Ireland

My first travels took us to a tiny
island in the the Atlantic,
a dream of pink sand and turquoise seas;
a place where scooters
rode on the left side of teeny,
tiny, winding roads
and Navy people lived in abundance.

I am from hopscotch, jump ropes,
45 rpm tunes,
the Twist and Elvis.
Sock hops and poodle skirts.

My dreams of a kind, loving and sober husband
came true when I found my soulmate

I’ve now returned to my land in the north
My birthplace given from Mother Earth
A calming and reflective spot
A place to walk amongst the great forests and
meadows where wildlife roam freely
And eagles nest in tree tops

A place where presidents are made
A land of Live Free or Die!!!!

Marti, you go girl! Given your circumstances, I am surprised that you were able to meet this challenge ~ and you did so, most eloquently and with such grace. I was moved by every single mot!

It was wonderful to get to learn more about you and your roots!

Thank you, dear poet.  I have not had the best of days today (actually yesterday was no picnic either). But now I feel blessed. I felt a smile return to my face when I read this lovely piece of workmanship.  And now as I respond, the smile has not left.

Thank you so much for opening your heart and touching my heart.

God Bless You,
Patricia

Thank you all for your kind replies. Patricia, this was indeed an inspiring challenge. One that I enjoyed very much and helped me walk down lanes I haven't walked in years.

I enjoyed this very much.  I love how you are back in the north forests, because that is where I am too.  I'm grateful that there are many north forests.
