None can see She is living a lie; None realize Her true identity A vulnerable child, lost. None witness her pouring tears Behind the plaster smile; Torturous screams unheard, Only empty laughter escapes. She is trapped behind a mask. She might be saved, If just one cared enough To tread the unknown. But passing by, none dare To delve into her truth. Through pensive solitude A forgotten girl decides, To abandon the uncaring. The taste of ink upon her page, So bitter, but never sweet. Thanatopsis, Not far from reach, She drifts into its slumber, Embracing her eternal sepulcher. And so, a phantom child escapes. Blinded as the surface breaks, Piercing light, unexpected. Is this her fated resting place? She knows not, Uncertain fear seeps in. Sudden engulfing warmth, Though not the flames of Hell. A still voice severs the silence, In disbelief, she is told That life awaits her return. A ridiculous thought, This cannot be as it seems. For not a single one ere Had bothered to assist Her wretched, hopeless soul. Yet standing before her now, A wingless angel With outstretched hand. Plucking her off the brink, Never to fall again. Newfound love, Nourishes her starved soul. The pall which once overcast, Lifts as she realizes, Someone cares. |
