in the shadows

Walk me slowly my love
in memories
on littered paths that wind along meandered banks
above valleys cut with understanding
by ancient languid rivers of time.

I'm smiling,
thinking of you so tense,
so concerned about ...
  ...what?
How to live?
When to die?
That seems to me to be like a tree
wondering
if it should allow its leaves to turn with the season
or if in Spring
to suffer children to frolic among its branches.

When we were young,
you always so much younger than I,
we would spend stolen nights
dancing breathless
through trysts in loving vignettes,
scripts carved by Eros
in bas relief on living surfaces of souls entwined,
souls made senseless to all but the searing heat of lust
numbed to the cutting pains of understanding
time,
in time,
would tear our lives apart
leaving each a wounded heart
dancing in the mists of memory
alone.

~sigh~I'm having trouble finding the right words for this. Poignantly tender and loving are too weak. Once again, you've touched a chord, and it resonates.

Sometimes I feel you watching.

This time that feeling made it impossible to read this just once.

The words pricked at my own memories of younger days.

You do still dance yanno.

icebox....it is too hard to find the right words to reply to this writing from that tender heart.  Just know I read it with a tear of my own.

Oh, Dear Box of Ice, one of the most beautiful poems that I have ever read. I am still reeling from the emotions that your poem evoked in me.

Yes, you have danced ~ oh, how you have danced.

You may no longer be in step with your long-lost love, but the memories of you together must still warm, the coldest of nights.

Love & dancing Light,
EA
