Backyard Dreams Falling – the leaves yellow, brown, gray – at a time when the weather is in that state of change, when the heart skips beats with the wind, when I’m found sitting on the swing in which you rode, when my head is in another place, an empty space where falling leaves herald naught but pain. It’s always too late for yesterdays, the change they wrought, the falling leaves that hide, that bury, that wipe away with their yellow, brown and gray. Falling leaves, backyard dreams, blown away with yesterday. © wesley james beard, jr. october 2007 |

Jimmy, you write such moving and nostalgic writes. They always touch me, Dear Poet. ~ "when the heart skips beats with the wind, when I’m found sitting on the swing in which you rode," ~ "Falling leaves, backyard dreams, blown away with yesterday." Loving hug, Linda |
