      DAWN IN THE BUSHLAND

Little birds wake up with a twitter
As the dewdrops glisten on grass,
The silence of night seems to shatter
As the darkness lifts up it’s mask.

The possums head for their hollows,
As a fox eats the last of it’s feast,
Then heads for it’s den in the ranges
While the sky glows bright in the east.

The magpies warble’s a tonic
To those who are up and abroad,
And the kestrel’s cry from up in the sky,
Strikes high, on a musical chord.

Another day is at dawning
As the sun peeps over the trees,
The last traces of darkness seem to vanish
Like smoke drifting away on a breeze.

For it is dawn in the bushland
And of all places I’d sooner be there,
To hear the bellbird’s cheery good morning,
Ringing clear in the still morning air.

Lindsey, I have never been to Australia but I feel like I have due to your beautiful, discriptive poems. I think I feel more of a poetic connection to you than anyone else on the site.

Ida, James, Marge and Margherita, I really

do appreciate your comments. I think one of the nicest things about writing poetry is when other poets read it and enjoy it and respond accoringly, my sincere thanks.

The last stanza makes one wish that he could visit the bushland.
