NEVER TOO OLD

His hair was snow white, for he was eighty years old
But it was in years and not in physique,
His wife was also well kept for her age
For she had her 76th birthday last week.

It had been some years since they’d been to the beach
So to visit Queensland's gold coast sounded great,
They packed up their bags & a vacation they planned
And caught a plane to that warm sunshine state.

Each day on the beach , they went for a walk
And each day on a seat they would rest,
The old man watched the girls as they passed
Especially those who flaunted bare breasts.

This peeved the old lady and quite tersely she said,
“ Jack from staring you must surely refrain,’’
But Jack kept his eye, on the girls passing by
And the old lady remonstrated in vain.

He reminisced as he watched the girls walking past
And back to his youth his mind was extended,
And he smiled the smile of one that’s content
But his wife seemed the more surely offended.

“They haven't got anything I haven't got”
She said sharply to her spouse with a sneer,
In his eye flashed a gleam, and with wit quite supreme,
He said,” but you’ve had your’s so much longer my dear.”

Cute poem LP. Women remember their youth also and some of are quick enough on our feet for a snappy reply. Seriously, I always enjoy your poems.

I almost swallowed my cough drop when I read the closing line! I then thought to myself, yes, she has had everything 'longer' ~ but they most likely ARE longer, as well! lol

You're never to old to look ~ or to laugh!
