Another one written a few years ago when things were not looking good. I still believe that you make your own 'luck' as long as you stay positive and accept help from others... Redundancy I had a little job once, it kept us all alive. Although we had some awful bills, just trying to survive. T’was not a life of luxury, I didn't earn a lot. But we survived quite happily and knew that some could not. Then one day came the dreaded news, your job's no longer there. I'm sure you know its for the best, you see, "we really care!". If we don't sack, just half of you, there'll be no jobs for us. So take this money, go away, try not to make a fuss. The package paid off all our bills, and now we're left with nought, except a mortgage and two kids plus several things we bought. I'll get another job I said, and try both night and day. But until then we must survive, on my wife's part-time pay. And so we battle onwards, now accustomed to our plight. I'm sure this winter of despair, must turn to summers light. If you're contented in your work and coping now quite fine, be ready if some future day your job expires; .....like mine. Ivor G Davies The moment created this second, is a moment that's going to last. It lives the full spectrum of time, the future, the present and past. Ivor my friend, this is amazing that you write this today, this happened to me this week and my job ends on Monday coming, fate turns the tables and more and more we have to live on hope and look toward different avenues of work. It is a shame when you enjoy the work and company, but these things happen and we tend to cope somehow. You have written a great poem here Ivor and one I can so relate to this week. Thank you. Wish me luck and have a great day. Rick |

Hard to face reality when the axe falls! In my case i had been with the same Company 25 years. Due to my age and the seniority of the job role I spent 12 months trying to get a 'similiar' job. After this 'reality check' I went back self employed selling for them, then as a vehicle inspector! Some 30 years with the same Company and was then made redundant again! Would you believe I am now in a more senior position than my first one, in a different Company and loving the job. I think this has had an effect, on not only my poetry, but my outlook on life. It does go to show though that there is life after redundancy! Rick I know only too well the problems you face and wish you the best of luck, only suggestion I can make is grab what you can and then look for what you want. The year out of work finanacially crippled me with two teenagers in tow! Funny how life turns around though, my eldist son is now a part owner and the Operations Director of the Company I work for! Again my heartfelt wishes to everyone who has to face this.... Ivor |

Ivor, I answered this yesterday, but I didn't get it posted. I wonder about doing things over, the principles behind the concept. My husband was laid off after 22 years from a lumber mill. It took five years for him to secure another position. Now we are at a transitional point again due to injury. A friend used to tell me, "Do one thing and do it well." However, I think it is more that whatever one does should be done well, in order to move forward. Your experience left me with a heartwarmed smile...so pleased at the outcome. I wish the same for Rick. ~ Karen |

A very sad truth No one is secure even those who think they are We can only survive on 2 salaries, It's so different a lifestyle than when i was young, Those days are gone You expressed your feeliings well in this piece Liz |

I’ve never been redundant It seems I missed a lot ? Always been quite happy With anything I got I never craved for stardom A job like Tony Blair I must be missing something Or maybe just don’t care Some even think I’m crazy The village idiots smile My life it aint been easy Although it’s been worthwhile I never shirked from duty The Queen has been my boss Always tried to give back more Then never count the cost I’m not a good companion For those folk seeking fame In fact I often wonder Do they see it as a game? I’ve money in my wallet A bed to rest my head A lovely girl beside me I think enough’s been said I’m not an easy target though I laugh at fools.. out loud I can spot the tosser Hiding in the crowd I don’t like being beaten My memory serves me well If anyone would cross me I may change?.. who can tell? |
