The Sorrow of Remembering

Have you ever had to walk on tiptoe?
walking on eggshells so as not to break
that silence and turn the attention toward you?
Of trying to keep the peace,
when there was no peace to be kept?
Of hiding your eyes to the world,
So they wouldn’t know how much you have wept?
Smiling at all the right people
Saying what they wanted to hear
Then not wanting to go home at night
Knowing you were living in fear.
Have you ever not wanted to wake up
Just to die in your restless sleep
To keep holding onto each tomorrow
Just made you wake up and weep.
To live in that dreaded damnation
With feeling all bottled inside
And you think no one else will understand
What you’re feeling and fears, you still hide.
The last thing you think of at nightfall
And the first that awaits you with dawn
Is the fact you you’re feeling so hated
And you’re living with satan’s own spawn.
So you take all you can till you’re empty
And there’ nothing left to give away
Then you walk out with no regrets forever
But still in your mind memories play.

I wonder if you would regret that you stayed so long...sound like the experiences of living with a controlling, manipulation person...James

You know, I did regret it, at one time, but now I feel like it was a preparation period. I am not longer bitter, I am free! Thanks for reading and for the kind comment. Dee

My ex-wife told me that she regretted staying with me so long...I can sympathize with her...I was no prize at that time...I hope I am more desirable now...I'm not sure of her desire to forgive me...but I hope she does as foregiveness sets the person that forgives free...James

this is so true..not forgiving is like walking thru life with a weight around your ankle. It hinders no one but the one who can't forgive. thanks for all the nice comments. Dee
