Travis - RIP-12/25/05 - 6/28/07

An angel has been taken away from our world
So very small, so innocent…
His mama cries for his return
Not understanding, why such a young soul had to go
Confused within her pain
She finds consolation  within his memory
A mother’s heart crying for her baby boy
Wishing that he was still with her
But knowing that he is no longer

As she lays him down to rest
Her heart is torn, and though she has her other children
Her baby boy… was her last… the most innocent of all
She holds strong … and breaks when the  coffin is lowered
I feel her pain… I feel her anguish .. Her confusion
Her inner cries as to why!!!!!
His smile is present,  and from the heavens
He holds his mama close
Letting her know that he is in a better place

*****I personally don't know this child, nor do I know his Mom... but when I read her note to one of her friends... It broke my heart.

I dedicated this to her

What a beautiful baby boy....   tragic, the loss of a child--I hope to never know this kind of pain...!

I believe you've done that mother's heart justice with this poem...

hugs, g

Deeply understanding your feelings here, my friend.  And I appreciated and praise you for your verbalization of it in written speech.

I once had a somewhat similar experience and wrote a piece about it posted in Open Poety #39 I think, if you're interested.  It was called (I think) "I Wish You Tears" and although I know and consider life in the flesh an all too fleeting and inevitable thing, watching, hearing, even just knowing a child has died, touches my soul like nothing else.

My heart to you...and the mother.

Thank you all for your beautiful comments.  I really felt this woman's pain.  And to my suprise this dedication did not upset her, but made her feel better.  I accomplished my goal, brough a smile to her face...
