    On Evenings Like This (#3)

On evenings like this…
when all sights and sounds of day
silently slip away,
and a selective-yellow sunset
tips the finest castled clouds,
in garnet and crimson-rose…
until the pale-blue taper-stars
light a dark-indigo sky,
I gaze toward cold 'heavens'
of ancient, taciturn gods
to taste only darkness,
(my heart plunging with
   infinite sadness through the
   twilight and memories)
as I recall…how whisper-small
   we truly are
on the breath of this infinite Universe;
(like all ‘things of beauty’ fading fast
   in the rain and mists of Time)...
I pray that only just beyond
   all frail hopes and chance,
some defiant dreams of love
   still stand!

Secondhanddreampoet,

This is a well-written little number. However, do we know that the universe is infinite? Space, now that’s infinite. At least that’s the way I see it.

Smiling...in defiance, of the myriad of obstacles, the mindless machinations mankind manages to throw upon love's pathway. For me, stepping around or over them is the only way. But then, I've been accused of being a naive dreamer and optimist.

I sometimes wonder just how big we really
are compared to other places and beings that
might well reside somewhere over that cosmic
horizon as asteroids streak in helter skelter
race into darkness....
