Change
By Larry Chadwick

It happens upon reflection,
Usually following some correction.
That what you thought you knew,
Is totally different after review.

If the conscience were not ignored,
And regrets were not just abhorred…
Then perhaps actions would be changed,
And outcomes completely rearranged.

But mercy gives us more than we deserve,
When we find forgiveness without reserve.
And growth is better late than never,
Especially when it is with love forever.

July 7, 2007

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane,
I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Those last two lines pull this together perfectly Larry.  I loved this.  You have been missed round here sweet mister.

No more hangin' on to the past
No more filling up my tomorrows
With yesterday's sorrows
No more lookin' over my shoulder {T.Tritt}

"And growth is better late than never,
Especially when it is with love forever."

I do indeed believe this to be absolutely correct.

Enjoyed the read and message.  Thank you.

And what old wiseman whispered these little
bits of wisdom in your ears? (singular or
plural?)  ear/ears//???

Well done Larry C.

There is a lot of truth and wisdom in this, Larry. I wholeheartedly agree. We are given many changes, many chances, and correction is good, because it results in growth. Loved this, my friend.

Best wishes and hugs,
/Kit

Enjoyed your words here Larry, the last lines brought it all home for me.

Especially when it is with love forever.

Thanks for sharing.

Donna,
Thanks for such kind words. I do keep an eye on the place. I dont' write a lot lately and when I do it is usually prose. I hope all is well with you.

Drauntz,
Thank you. But no philosopher in me.

Thanks James. It's nice to see you.

Honeybunch,
How nice to see you. And thank you. I have friends visiting Africa for the next three weeks.

Alison,
Thank you so much. It is definitely based on experience. And I must tell you how truly blessed I am.

Magnus,
It wasn't so much it got whispered in my ear (singular) as it got beat over my head and then patted on my cheek. Either way I am amazingly blessed. And thank you kind sir for noticing.

Dominique-Simone,
It is nice to meet you and thank you for your kind words.

Kit,
Well it seems us (meaning me) hard headed people get our growth best in hard times and painful lessons. And you have no idea how much I value and respect your thoughts and opinions. Thank you Kit.

Rick,
I can't believe you have been here so long and we haven't met. It's nice to meet you and thank you a bunch.

SmartChick,
Ah, thanks.

You do know that I think "change" is a dirty word... right up there with those not allowed on Open? LOL

But this is so lovely... especially the last verse!!! *S*

"And growth is better late than never,

"That's the way love grows." Just like it should. I've missed your strong-tender words.

well now, ain't you something with your new haircut in your picture. How cute

Larry, my friend...although there is a playful quality to this poem, it is much deeper than a swing...it is wise, like a park.

Larry, you have a phenomenal amount of love and wisdom for someone who looks as young as you still do.

As you give, so may you always receive!

Lovin' hug,

Linda
P.S. Don't be such a stranger! You and your poetry have been missed.

Ruthie,
Yeah, but at least my dirty words don't require astericks to get through! And I really am glad you popped in, thanks.

Reg,
And you should see my shaggy self now! Always I appreciate your opinion and kind words. Thank you.

Martie,
You always have a way of stretching my mind. I like that. And you very much.

Linda,
Guess maybe that's why I don't feel so old. And bless you for being such a dear and faithful friend. Thanks.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane,
I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

ROFL... It just wouldn't be right for us to have to thump your knuckles. *G* But it's STILL a dirty word, Ron or not! LOL
