I have recently found out that the love of my life was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder. We were together only 6 months, when he decided to leave me during a Depression phase. We do not talk and it sucks because he was my best friend and have known each other for 21 years. I will mostly be posting poems about him or us and how this disorder has changed so much. "Depakote Dream" Do we walk on eggshells in rusted mind? This has captured you; tied you in razors, cut your sanity into fractions. A war unheard of, drags logic across thin glass; be careful we may break. Listen to what they say, no harm, no malice; I will wrap you in soft touches. Cry with me now. My solider he runs, fast into darkness; recovery unheard of, he sees comfort in his pain. Familiar voice calls him; No way out, he begs for liberation, there is nothing there, there was nothing everywhere. Lost inside a blank palette you ask for aid in your creation. “ I need you” a whisper so faint begging. Give me your hand, I will lead you. Trust, understand, I have never wanted anything else; my door damaged with rash decisions and hurt, is cracked slightly and the light waits for you. Peer in, and I will give you what you need. My friendship. |

~poignant~ Having grown up with bi-polar family members, I can relate to parts of this. It is never an easy emotional landscape. I also work with bi-polar personalities, and understand the land-mines you step around daily. You are a true friend and caring companion to hang in there offering continued strength and support. My best wishes to you. Kacy |

Thank you so much...Kacy. That really means a lot. This whole process has been very hard for me but I love him to much to see him give up |

I am new to the site and was drawn to this poem because it hits so close to home. The title alone was wow. My father was and boyfriend is bipolar. I am sorry your friend is no longer talking to you. Keep writing I hope to be as good as you one day |

I am sorry I am not sure what you mean Robert. There are drugs that help people with the disorder cope. There is no cure. Yes it is something the person suffering has to deal with but there is help with counsling, and the right meds. Also any support from friends and family. |

Alone you are right. Robert I agree with Alone, I do not seem to get what you are trying to say. This poem is not implying that there is a magic pill that will cure Bipolar disorder. |

Dominique... you are truly a loving and caring soul, God bless you... your poem provides an insight to how mental illness can affect the ones you love, which I needed to hear... I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 1994... there are the manic nothing-can-touch-me highs and devasting depressions... your friend needs time to adjust to this news and to the medication... he may have to try different medications until he finds the right combinations that work for him... don't give up hope... do what you're doing... be a friend... and write when you need to... we're hear to listen and support you. Doninique-Simone, I too have worked with bi-polar disorder and have some understanding of the depth of despair it creates. You are proving yourself to be strong and faithful. May God bless your efforts and heal your friend. Peace. If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, |

Dear lady Simone I grew up with a father and brother with this problem...it was not easy. For you to write it out is healing...perhaps one day he will read what you write and understand himself better, and you. |

Thank you Martie. I hope but without him talking to me it will make it quite hard. But there is always hope, you never know. |
