(This poem was written from a challange to write an emotional poem with each line starting with one of the letters of the alaphbet...in order of course: a,b,c,d...)

Some Losses Come Harder Than Others

Already you were part of me -
blue? pink? it mattered not.
Carefully I held you,
deep beneath flesh,
enclosed within womb -
floating safe in my inland sea.
Gleefully I memorized
heartbeat and ultrasound;
immersing you in motherly love.

January came on hard that year
killing trees and dreams -
losing you came harder.
Mahogany stains
never washed out
of pale blue carpet -
painful reminders,
quantifying grief,
rendering me speechless.

Spring brought no new life.
Time stood still -
unremitting and relentless.
Veiled in sorrow, I
waited, wished, prayed that
X chromosome would meet
Y - leaving
zygote in their wake.

I am nothing special...and my name will soon be forgotten,but I've loved another with all my heart and soul,and to me,this has always been enough.~N.S

Ruth, never mind the challenge, that was great all by itsself...but what you wrote about? wow...that just rips the heart open and lets the ache pour out....excellent penning....
