Skinny old,
half-dead Felix
stops for a fast food
sandwich
on his way back
from getting a blood test
for his diabetes.

He can’t help but notice
how many brother and sister
Americans
waiting in line are obese.

He says a little prayer
for them.

He sits there
and thinks to himself.

"Mom and Dad,
you never gave me much,
but those skinny genes
are gifts enough."

Bobby

Nice writing...I have a friend that eats alot, and most of the time she eats healthy, and she doesn't gain weight...me thinks she was blessed with those skinny genes, and an outstanding metabolism, small bone structure, and all of those things...James

Thanks James,

I think it's all in the metabolism.  You have to be small, active, and nervous like Felix.

Of course if you're not, that's okay too.

Ruth,

I'm pleased you got a kick out of it.  We all have to work with the genes we have.  Some people would say I'm too small.  I don't tend to impress people with my fearsomeness.  That can be a problem.

(sigh) And there are just some things that just can't be explained quite as well, in that I actually come from a family that is more-or-less above average in weight overall, and I used to weigh in the 50% percentile, and now within the past year and a half I've lost over 25% of my body weight and have recently battled anorexia, being in the less-than-2% percentile at one point! (sigh) Biology is quite a mysterious thing, though in general it's obvious obesity is becoming a mainstream problem as binge eating becomes the leading eating disorder, bless you for sharing this, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Robert, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

Passing shadows,

Thanks for reading hon.  I’m really not surprising at all.

Mistletoe Angel,

Thanks for the very kind note.  I’m sure you will be doing fine.

I guess I’ll stick around after all.

Bobby
