Felix’s old man is out of prison. He’s back at home. Felix, he’s glad to see him. Now he can tell any old smart-ass coming up the street, coming out from under the railroad under pass, he can tell them his dad’s at home. Yeah, he can tell them that. His dad’s making his old lady cook food now. Felix is eating better. That’s good. Oh, sure, his old man smacks him around a little bit. Felix can take it. Hey, ain’t that the way it’s supposed to be. That kind of stuff just makes Felix tougher. Felix wants to be tough, just like his old man. Ain’t that the way he’s supposed to be, just like his old man. Felix sure is glad to have his old man back. “Happy Father’s Day Dad, I’m glad you’re home.” Bobby |

What I like about your poetry is that what you write bares truth and does it so well. To add to what James said, we can't choose our parents or relatives, but we learn from everyone, some lessons good, some not so good. Great writing. |

James & Miscellanea, Thanks for the good words. We owe our Fathers our life. They do/did the best they can/could. I’m pleased the poem worked for you--happy Father’s Day to all of them. Bobby |

Hoot_owl_rn, Geez, Alan Alda, how about that--the only other movie star I’ve ever been associated with is when I’m smoking my cigars. Then people claim I look like Lassie. That’s an old joke. Felix will make out just fine, we all have our low spots. As far as father figures go, they’re kind of a dime a dozen. It is nice for kids like Felix to have an older guy who will be their friend, and do fatherly things. The main thing to remember, everyone has the responsibility to make do with what’s available. Sometimes all you can do is look in a mirror. That's your father staring back at you. Bobby |
