DUSTY  BOOTS

In the corner a pair of boots sit
with dust gathering upon them
but if those boots could speak
I'm sure they'd have a story to tell.

For you see these boots have
wandered through freshly plowed fields
of  farmers, across rivers and streams
of  hunters and fishermen alike..
They've hiked many  trails,
and saw many mountain tops.
These boots have danced the Texas two step.
And ran through blazing fires.
And they've even helped to walk a child safetly across the street.

They have marched in parades and through the
jungles of  wars, and desert sands.
These boots have carried the wounded, sick,
and yes even the dying and dead.

Until he extends the circle of his compassion to all living things,
man will not himself find peace."

Remembrance

Eventually
this is all one has
of the long strong column
sweating down the road.

The captain in front
with a cane he doesn't need.
Sounds of boots,
their dusty notes in unison.

A short time sergeant
staying out of the sun.

Watching
man by man
marching on

mile by mile
through the tiger hour.

Froggy friend, please stand up and take a bow for this exceptionally fine write! I believe this to be one of my favourites of yours!

If only those boots could speak! But then again, you have just spoken for them ~ and very poetically at that!

So good to be reading your poetry again!

Giving you a big, warm hug-o-love,
Linda
