On December 31, 2005, I decided that, in my date book, I would pretend that time was not passing, that I would just add days to December, 2005. I kept it up until about December 83, 2005. I thought of doing this again in December, 2006, because I view the relentless march of Time with some trepidation. Why, even the date itself is rather unsettling: 2007. Like the sci-fi stories we read back in kiddy school. Remember? ... I wish there were some way to stop the summer too, or at least delay it indefinitely. Yet the moving finger writes, inexorably. I feel too trapped on the escalator of Time, proceeding, ever so steadily. I am sometimes painfully aware that Time is passing, that I am getting older, that whatever might have been is less likely to ever be. I wish I could jump off the escalator. just for a while, just to look around, to ponder, to consider, to get ready; before rushing headlong, rushing pell mell into the future. I wish I could escape, if only for a little while, this cage of clocks and papers, of people judging me ... people yelling at me that I haven't done this or that ... I wish that I could somehow just GO AWAY to a place where Time is far away, and with a Dear to hold and love me. But then, inexorable Reality closes in. Yet much as I dislike or fear it, the escalator of Time grinds on. And with the changing seasons, I can at least entertain the fantasy that someone waits for me behind the curtain that separates the Future from the Past. That is why I am writing you, my dear, that some day you will find a package on your doorstep, and you will know that it is yours, from me. With Love. "I wish that I could somehow just GO AWAY to a place where Time is far away, and with a Dear to hold and love me." That is exactly what I pretend to coax myself to sleep some nights. (Other nights, nothing works.) And a for a gentle soul and caring heart. |

Drauntz. Thank you. I never thought of Life as a car! It might also be like a train, except it won't stop not even to let you catch your breath, so you have to catch it on the run, and you are "stuck" with the others in your car, or at least adjacent cars. And Karen: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH I will endeavor to be with you in spirit. Southern Cross |
