Dream lights the seed of golden field Within a gold set street Where dandelions warm the toes ‘Tween bricks under travelers’ feet. Yellow road in day-be-gones, Was framed in black and white; Scarecrow not empowered To imagine himself as bright, But, as the color lit the screen, and GREEN Became alive, The hope hidden under mane Gave courage a great, high five. The valor bounced to tin man, To the king, and man of straw, To courageous, caring Dorothy, And her little dog. If a road of gold led them to their dreams, Perhaps, a bed of dandelions is not really as it seems… Those useless weeds, in fact may be The lining of our street, One paved with brickly gold, Pillowed especially for our feet. ~miscellanea~ **As you can tell, I'm eager to take off my shoes and and immerse my toes in the velvety grass and dandelions! I have a fascination with nature, especially in Spring. I'm in awe of the many shades and values of green. To add to that, the redbud, dogwood trees, and lilacs are almost in bloom! Your love of spring comes out beautifully in this poem...the visions you draw with your words makes me want to shout for spring to hurry up and brighten up our lives....A delightful read...*Big Hugs* |

This is a beautiful poem. I too like dandelions. I used to pick them for my mom when I was little. Back then I did not know they were weeds. You can also make tea out of them. I really liked the read. Awesome poem here!!! |

Startime, Thank you so much for your response! I haven't been able to think of anything to write about lately until this. Consequently, I really have missed the feeling writing gives! I'm pleased this gave you a moment's delight and urge to shout for Spring. Happy Spring to you. miscellanea |

sweetpoetess, I knew people made wine and salads from dandelions, but I didn't know about tea. Interesting. Their arrangement of the seemingly zillions of petals just amazes me. I remember choosing dandelions for another purpose with a childhood friend to determine if our 'boyfriends' loved us or not! We'd plucked out one petal at a time saying, "He loves me," then the next petal, "He loves me not" until we got to the last petal. That one determined it all! (I wonder if that game is a game people do all over the world.) Thank you for your kind response. It made me think of things I hadn't thought of for many years. I'm glad the poem was enjoyable to you. |

Goodnknight, We must be on the same wavelength or something. Just yesterday, I was thinking about you and wondering if you were still writing and wondering how you were. Uncanny timing, Paul! Yes, Spring looks like it is here finally! Thank goodness! It was very nice to hear from you again! Cathy |

miscellanea, I also am a dandelion lover. There are more than one type and I love to see them pop up. If only others would let them grow and appreciate them as we do. I have made dandelion wine. A nice white sweet wine. Ah Spring, violets and dandelions.. yes! martyjo |

Those useless weeds, in fact may be The lining of our street, One paved with brickly gold, Pillowed especially for our feet. How can anything be useless when they inspire poets... and are looked upon fondly by so many? *S* I happen to love them... both as they dot the landscape with their bright yellow... and when they go to see, inviting wishes to be blown upon them. *S* I love this... I had the good fortune to see Wicked (for the 2nd time *S*) a few weeks ago... so your Oz references delight me. *S* Excellent work!! |
