 Artist: Diane Romanello Dispirited ~ Linda L. Dowd Alone and dispirited wherever I’d go, As I paddled up-stream against river flow. I had no intentions or purposeful path, No dance in my step ~ just a heart filled with wrath. My glass was half-empty ~ I was mired in self-pity. The road that I plodded was bumpy and gritty. I skulked in dark shadows and hid from the light. Night skies were starless ~ my days were of night. My eyes had no smile ~ my face wore a frown. I was sad and dispirited as I trudged about town. Aimless and hopeless ~ with eyes rimmed with tears, My life knew no love ~ just heartache and fears. I’d trip and I’d stumble each step of the way, ‘Til I raised my eyes skyward and started to pray. Light entered my body ~ I was glowing and warm, And around me bright butterflies did suddenly swarm. Their rainbow wings fluttered in divine sun light, ~ Shimmering, whispering that all was all right. Peace filled my spirit as I breathed in the scene, For Heaven had touched me ~ I was calm and serene. As I soaked up God’s love, floral scents filled the air, I awoke to the beauty ~ resplendent everywhere. My eyes were smiling ~ there was a dance in my feet, God’s love and compassion made my world replete. ~*~ I now go with the flow as I sail life’s stream, With hope in my heart and with many a dream! “Happiness is a state of mind.
