Search and Rescue On a cold and wintry day, Three young men have lost their way, Tracking down a wounded deer, They soon realized, with fear, They'd missed the trail that led them out, Of woods, now clustered all about. A shelter was imperative, If they'd get through the night and live. With broken branches stacked around Some close set tree trunks, they soon found, By huddling close, their warmth was shared. Back home, the family who cared, Was frantic at the absence of These people that they viewed with love! Search and Rescue left in haste, Knowing there was no time to waste And sometime in the evening hours, Using their detecting powers, They found a truck and then a trail. Stopping frequently to hail The darkened world, they finally got A loud response and reached the spot Where three very cold and frightened men Were hoping they'd see home again. Saved by a group that always makes, Whatever effort that it takes! Betty Lou Hebert |
