Halloweens Past There was a time when flocks of ghouls Came to my welcoming door For candy, cakes or popcorn balls; But goblins come no more. My bell won't ring this Halloween. I'll hear no gleeful shout From voices yelling trick or treat; No witch or ghost about. Six children used to live across This self-same street from me. They laughed that I could never guess Whom each disguised could be. Only adults are living now Where children used to play. The neighborhood has changed, it seems; Growing older every day. My own grandchildren used to come To get their favorite treat. My heart beat faster when I heard Their little scurrying feet. I guess they have forgotten This once loved time in the fall. They take my great-grandchildren Trick or treating at the mall. By: Joyce 10/31/06 |

Awwww..Joyce, this made me sad. My grandsons live in a different city than us, and I didn't get to see them in their little costumes this year. At least I have the neighbourhood children to hand out candy to. But, just like you, they are all growing up too fast as well. thankyou for this. hugs, Chris "Be yourself; everyone else is already taken." - Oscar Wilde |

Thanks Friends. Yes the mall sponsors a trick or treat for the kids and gets their parents in to shop of course. Joyce |

Dear Joyce: We have the same situation here. Living so far from town, we had to depend on all the children in the area and they used to come, but now they are grown, moved away, or married and have little ones they take to church parties. We did have two participants this year and that was it! Too bad, as it used to be such a fun evening. Love Betty Lou Betty Lou Hebert |

I definitely know this situation. I live in a decent sized city, but in a neighborhood populated mostly by adults. it's been that way since I was younger. My house, usually, is the only one with a light on so children don't even bother. but, then that leaves more candy for me. :-) thanks for sharing, -John nice use of muffin |

I remember all of that. I used to enjoy it so much. Now that my kids are grown, they don't beleive in Halloween. I still love it. Thanks for the delightful poem! Barb |
