A rising, young starlet named Ruth,
Unaware that it was uncouth
Wore sneakers and socks
With her formal frocks
‘Til Miss Manners taught her the truth.

When she walked the carpet in style
Her favorite footwear brought a smile
From fashion elite
Who noticed her feet
Were dressed in a way they deemed vile.

They mocked her next day in the press.
Indeed they declared her a mess.
Until avid fans
Ignoring their bans
Made sneakers and socks formal dress.

Designers now over their shocks,
Are thinking quite out of the box.
Though they’re annoyed
They’re duly employed
Sewing diamonds on argyle socks.

Poor Ruth is now feeling quite bad.
She found out that her socks were a fad.
It's because, I suppose
That she tried pantyhose
Over cotton white socks....ain't that sad???
