I see some apples hanging
on the old and twisted tree,
the Gravenstein you planted
so many years ago.

It has been ailing lately,
without your loving care
when its tasty fruit was made into
the pies that you loved so.

The tree and I are slowing down
and pies produced are few;
but the tree still tries so I will bake
and eat and think of you.

Dear Joyce:

A lovely, nostalgic poem.  I have lots of apples this year on my Granny Smith and the red delicious but I am not getting too excited, as either the deer or the bears usually get them the minute they are ready!
We haven't had a pie off of either tree for about 4 years now!

Joyce,

I really love this one - it makes me want to drop by so you can teach me how to make a good pie crust.  I bake pretty well.  But, I can not master the art of pie crusts.

naked Thoughts, Trillium and Alison, thank you for reading and commenting.  Alison I wish you would stop by and I would teach you my mama's secrets.  She was the world champion and I come in pretty close.  Love, Joyce

Joyce I just love this poem. I know whenever I am sorta blue all i have to do is hop over to the corner pub and talk to you. You are one of my favorites at PIP.

Dear Joyce,

Your poem touched my heart so much; it reminded me of my grandmother and the closeness of us doing simple things together..

Thank you for this

I bet you make some delicious pies, Joyce. That is something my mother never did. Therefore, I never learned either. but, it was something I had wanted to learn. Now, there is no one to make pies for.
