A Fantasy

If we were like Dagwood and Blondie,
Never aging a single day,
With a dog who was destined to be ever young
And children teenagers to stay.
No sad war nor big problems to plague us
We would live in disaster free world.
Dagwood's dark head never loses a hair.
Blondies tresses are perfectly curled.

If we could have lived in the comics
We would not have had these hard days.
When dark clouds rolled in, they would roll out again.
We'd be basking in bright sunny rays.
I would not have received that sad phone call,
Telling me I was now on my own,
That my children had lost their dear father
And I'm left to raise them alone.

In my fancies I live in the comics
Where each Sundays a new day of laughter.
My love did not die and I need not cry.
We're together forever and after.

Dear Joyce,
I am touched by your poem. Sometimes we need to pause in a world where everything's perfect, so that we can cope again with everything that is not.

Yes, that kind of phonecall changes a life abruptly.

Enjoy your comics, they have their purpose too, they accomplish a mission. Laughter is healing.

Most beautiful write.

Love,
Margherita

I'd volunteer to be the dog

Dear Joyce:

I love your poem and have had the same thought more than once. I don't think I would want to be Blondie, but having been a brunette all my life, it might be fun!

I like your perspective. I too read the comics and have enjoyed the fantasy families that live on and on without hard times we endure.
Thanks, Melton

Joyce,

And we could eat huge sandwiches and never gain weight!

Seriously, your poetry so often inspires me and gives me a message to savor.

Thank you.
