Interesting... I was just telling someone last night that secrets, when found out, feel like lies. Prolly 'cause somebody lied when they promised not to tell? I dunno, but I love your take on it. Nicely done. |

A secret is not a lie, it's a boundary. A boundary says that you are on that side of this line and I am on this side; and we are not identical. Some folks have difficulty bearing that they are not the same as somebody else, especially people they love, but also sometimes people they hate. In neither case is the boundary as secret, though it may be treated as one. Sometimes a person may wish the boundary wasn't real, but this is a wish for the only time such a situation was really so, in the womb, when there was not much if any distinction between mother and child, in which case the wish to lose the boundary is the wish to lose what make you yourself or make me myself and which perhaps makes us lovable at all. A bit of philosophical mumbo jumbo for those as mumbo jumbled as I am about this topic. Yours, Bob Kaven |

Welcome to Pip! When we are the ones who share the secret with a special person, it is a precious gift mostly. You reminded me of a saying my Mom told me about: Nichts brennt so heiss wie heimliche Liebe von der niemand was weiss. Nothing burns more than a secret love nobody knows of .... Well, this is just an example, but anyway in my opinion, secrets are not necessarily lies once discovered. Secrets are of different nature and widely diffused, I believe. People do have a right to cherish their secrets, if they so are inclined. If the secrets regard bad actions one feels guilty about of course we are on a delicate terrain no doubt. Thought provoking.
