Peaceful Moments

I sit on my stoop and survey my domain,
Can't think of a reason I have to complain.
The fuchsia is thirsty, I give it a squirt
And some for the dahlia, it truly can't hurt.

My roses are blooming, the birds are about
Teaching their nestlings to sing, there's no doubt.
It's the first days of summer and bees are abuzz,
Working as hard as a busy bee does.

And though my Utopia may not be for long
And sooner or later some thing will go wrong,
For this peaceful moment, all's right in my world
As my nation's flag flies, unfettered, unfurled.

For two-hundred thirty-two years she has flown,
These bits of bright color that Betsy has sewn.
We'll all be saluting her on her birthday.
Old soldiers will march and the school bands will play.

We'll think of those who have so bravely gone
To fight for our flag so that we can go on
With such peaceful moments of sweetness and light
As we pray for their safety and end of the fight.
