Soon after my arrival I learned I could rely upon Those pair of arms I had been placed They held me closely I enjoyed snuggling close to her breast Suckling, smelling the sweetness of milk Feeling the swish of satisfaction That calmed my hunger pains Hunger pains that awoke me from my sleep I soon learned how demanding I must be To obtain her attention Crying was the only language I knew To communicate my needs When I was in discomfort I learned I could make different vocal sounds In different virables and tones Most often mother seemed to Find the message I was trying hard to communicate I grew to depend upon the woman Who had birthed me I felt the joy that she felt I felt the first tinge of the thing I later learned was love I felt happy positive feelings Thinking that I had indeed Tumbled down that canal headfirst Into a wonderful place |
