The Wave When someone said one day, to me, "The Wave is waiting, let's go see!" I thought of ocean and I planned To walk bare-footed in the sand. But inland was the route instead And Arizona where it led. We left the car and hiked a ways To where this unique feature lays. The sight was mesmerizing so, We took our time to get to know A little of this atmosphere, Where this rare country does appear. It seems that once, in eons past, There was a desert, high and vast, That over time and exposed to The wind and weather, slowly grew Into these sandstone buttes and vale Of strata, colored dark and pale, Deep red and orange, pink and tan, Developing since time began. Resembling the waves at sea, To swoop and fall, dramatically. A sight so beautiful and strange, That only nature could arrange. Betty Lou Hebert |
