The Mighty Maple

Our maple tree looks old and gray,
But it won't always be that way.
Before too long it will show green
And soon its pretty leaves are seen.
It's weathered many storms and still
Seems to feel that it must fill
The corner of the yard, where soon,
Its shade will be a daily boon!
We like to sit there with iced tea
And stare up at the canopy
That looms so far above our head.
There was a time we thought it dead.
A winter ice storm tore away
One third of what we see today
And yet it struggled to survive,
To come back in the spring alive.
The trunk is marked by giant scar,
But from a distance, it can't mar
The beauty of this tree that's known
Much hardship, but has always grown!

Trees are my favourite things, this is a really nice poem. It shows the resilience of nature. Makes me homesick for spring.

This is lovely.  That is the way I feel about my Oak Tree.  It is barren really late in the spring but when it comes to life it is a true thing of beauty.  Your poem brings it to life in my head.  Love, Joyce

Claira:  Thanks for reading. Our maple has been badly damaged by winter storms, several times, but always makes a triumphant come-back!

Dear Joyce:  Thanks.  Our maple is just now starting to leaf out. It really suffered a lot over the winter, so i am especailly glad to see the leaves starting.

It's funnny how a beautiful thing like a tree can tie us together with so many lifetime memories.  Your poem was a beautiful reminder of that.

Hugs Kimberly

Dear Betty Lou

You and your maple tree have had some wonderful memories indeed!  The love that is shared with you and your family under it gave it the strength to survive the harshness of your winters and come back to serve you all well!

Your poem is very heartwarming!

Love Elizabeth (Betty Lou) xo
