Mary Celeste

They say she was a brigantine.
She had a crew of ten.
Was on her way to Italy,
But something happened then,
When she was off an island that
Was near The Azores and
The captain, family and crew,
Abandoned his command!

This ship was found by another,
Four hundred miles away
From where disaster struck and still
Is mystery today!
It's been one hundred years or more,
The question yet remains
What did become of all these folks?
Good sailors wrack their brains!

The crew that boarded her, surprised,
To find no one around,
Nor any sign of violence there.
They felt the ship was sound.
This ship adrift, was amply stocked,
But everyone was gone.
She made it safely into port.
The puzzle lingers on!

Good spook story for this time of the year, and well documented, too. Many theories have been circulated through the years. I wonder who’s hand would fit the glove left behind?
Thanks for the read,
Melton

Your spooky stories are sophisticated like all of your poems. My ghosts are even impressed with your ghosts.

pegasus:  It's fascinating isn't it, wondering what ever happened to the people on this ship. Especially with no signs of violence. Like they just all dived over board and disappeared.

Thanks.
