Halloweens Come and Go

You don't frighten me, my Darling.
I would know you anywhere,
Though you're in that witches costume
And that scary mask you wear.

For a moment I am flustered
Such a creature to behold.
Then I hear that little giggle
Just as in the days of old.

I've been missing your appearance
For these many a Halloween
Since I dressed you in October
As a little Fairy Queen.

When you grew a little older
You left all of that behind.
You thought Halloween was nonsense,
There were other treats to find.

I've been watching from my window
For the first ghosts to appear
Of the Halloweens of used to be,
Expecting none this year.

Then I hear the doorbell ringing
And I bolt from my big chair.
On the doorstep stand two tricksters
Yelling at me "Trick or Dare."

All the joys of the past years
Are now back this Halloween
As I see you in your costume
With your little Fairy Queen.

Dear Joyce: A sweet and funny poem and I do love seeing the children come in their costumes. Sometimes, we even get "big kids" and while we aren't sure who they are, they are having a great time.

joyce, i have 3 granddaughters. two of them are only 8 months old. the other one is 8 years old. in time, it will be interesting to see how the younger one's mothers react to halloween. my four children always looked forward to that time of year. the minds of children are so beautiful!

reread your poem...very beautiful...very beautiful indeed!...this poem would be perfect as a "Hallmark"!
