You walk the streets
Unshaven, dirty and cold
Your clothes ragged and torn
Hanging upon your thin body

You come to our door
We ask you to come in
We help you get clean
We feed you
We give you new clothes
A shave
You say nothing

We want you to stay
But when we are not looking
You are gone again
Wandering the cold streets
Lost
Walking in the dark
Far from home
Somehow you find your way
Home again

Again you are dirty
Haggard, un-kept
You skin brown and tough
Your hair ragged and dirty
Weathered feet and torn shoes
We help you get clean again
You sit there not saying a word
As before

Again when we are not looking
You disappear into the darkness
You are a mystery
How you wander the earth
We ask ourselves when will it be
When you’ll come back again

When that time comes…
We’ll do the same again
Why?
You know the answer

SweetBirdOfSong~

The first thing that comes to mind is unconditional love~

To do for another because it's what we do,
expecting nothing in return ... but hoping and praying for that person to gain from the giving~

So many mothers' children are wandering the streets unable to help themselves.  How heartbreaking.  Blessed are they if they have a home to come back to for the love and care they so desperately need.  Thoughtful and heart touching poem.  Joyce

faith and sin...faith and sin...i returned to my father's house one last time...only to look through glass but i did not go in! the glass had become opaque and i could not see. the destiny of such a man, without faith, is to roam the earth as a wanderer for all eternity. the ghost is a lost soul unable to ask for forgiveness...he is blinded by his ignorance!...there go both the ewe and the eye, except for the grace of god!
