Skeletons rattled deep in the night. Sweet Silk was dressed in satin white. The bridesmaids were gals we once knew- Joyce and Barb and Betty Lou. The groom slept in a box of pine. The family name was “Frankenstein.” Banshees wailed Sinatra’s tune While bats encircled the round, white moon. A spider banged piano keys, He wore bandanas on his knees. It was the night they decided to hitch- Frank the fiend and Silk the witch. Invisible fingers, invisible toes- A ghost dressed up in party clothes! In the cemetery, a mass of stones, Rattled above the dancing bones. In Castle Black, the honeymoon suite Was drenched in cobwebs. Oh! How neat! Curses and spells were sent by witches. Frank laughed all night; it kept him in stitches. It was the wedding of the year. If ya weren’t invited, ya lived in the fear Of the ugly guy with the sewed on toes, And the green-faced gal with the wart on her nose. |

beasley, enjoyed the rythmn of the poem. very fitting poem for this time of the year. until a few year ago, i owned a farm located within a triangle between frankenstein, chamois and hope. these are all small villages in central missouri. frankenstein has a population of less than 50 people but there are many festivities, at the large catholic church in the community, during this time of the year. your poem revived a lot of old memories!...thank you. |

That awful wedding was really a scare. The spider is gone. I know not where. |

I lay shaking under cover Hoping it was all a dream; Bridesmaid at a ghoulish wedding, Barb and Betty on my team. Beasley was the harried hostess Keeping everyone on track. She kept busy brushing cobwebs Off her suit of deepest black. They had rushed me so, I hadn't Had the time to comb my hair. Knew I must have been a scarecrow In my nightie standing there. Now I sit at my computer When I should have stayed in bed. This screen has turned into a vacuum, Pulled the brains right from my head. I thought we had a deal?
