Morgan's Wife The sheriff rode out early. It was scarcely breaking day. Said he had a prisoner Who had somehow slipped away. Morgan said he'd help him out. Then he saddled up to go. I asked him when I'd see him, But he said he didn't know. I stood and watched them riding. Did all the chores I could. Hauled in two pails of water And stacked up some more wood. By night time, it was snowing hard. I was glad to be inside. Then a face showed at my window And there was no place to hide. The man who stumbled through the door Was exhausted, I could see. He collapsed upon the floor Then he made his plea to me. He said he was not guilty. He'd been framed and couldn't die! His eyes were full of anguish. Now I couldn't tell you why, But I knew that he was truthful. Knew I'd help him if I could. I gave warm clothes and money And I also said I would Give my horse, that I held dear. I just only asked that he Would provide the best he could And he'd treat her tenderly. He thanked me and he hurried. Heavy snow soon hid his track. But what would I tell Morgan When he came riding back? Betty Lou Hebert |

Oh, I like this Betty. She'll have to think up a good story for Morgan. Love, Joyce |

Say there was a stranger Who knocked upon your door To whom you gave directions Some food, and little more When you went to lock the barn --And to your great dismay-- There was an empty stall because The horse had run away And if he gets suspicious Just candidly reply "Just as our founding father I cannot tell a lie" As you can see, I really liked your story! ![]() |

Those who do for people in need have a heart for God. What they do for others is what they do for God. No wonder you are such a terrific person, Betty Lou! love, Barb |

r v wooo: Thanks. The original is a much longer poem, but I shortened it up to publish it here. I think I managed to keep the meat of it however. I have toyed with the idea of making it a short story. Betty Lou Betty Lou Hebert |

betty, i'm relatively new to the pub and the history of its long standing contributors. i have a curiosity about the origin of your moniker or pen name. being a biologist, with a backgound in botany, was wondering if you had an attraction for the trillium flower. its an intriguing genus. there seems to be others with flower connections. thus, forming a beautiful bouquet of poetry inside pub#3. r v wooo: Thanks for asking about my Pub name, Trillium. I love the flower and we have a small woods where they bloom profusely in April. I joined the Pub site in April 6 years ago and had a bouquet sitting on my desk, so it was a natural choice. Betty Lou Betty Lou Hebert |
