Desert Lake

This desert lake is emerald green.
Some hills are barren, some are seen
To bear large crops of trees or vines.
It is a country rich in wines,
But also fruit like apples, pears,
That's hauled to stores and country fairs.
The bays are peaceful, deep and wide.
For the migrating geese provide
Safe harbor for the coming night,
To rest, before resuming flight.

Upon its brushy slopes you hear
The cry of pheasant, see red deer.
While in the evening, coyotes cry
From every shadowed hill nearby.
The ravens caw in early morn,
Even before the day is born,
To carry on long after sun
Has set the darkness on the run.
It is a place serenely set.
Tranquility I'll not forget!

Great use of rhyme here, Trillium--I've always been a sucker for rhyming couplets and you handle them with assurance. Lovely poem.

Regards,
Bill
