As November 11th approaches We are reminded dear At that hour We cultivate a stillness We Embrace and shed a tear To journey back to the times And look at the faces now as to back then Of these survivors of wars All that they endured and encountered Yet fought with all their heart and spirit It was indeed Time of Reckoning Each year goes by The poppies weep As they guard their Sacred soldiers With a promise of protection to keep Row upon row With grey and white When the sun shines in daylight Or with the moon into the night Their souls know In sombre sounds we listen For their galliant cry To remember them truely Honour their bravery Why they had to die Cast upon us Their spirits Let our hearts welcome them home Thou shall we not forget But remember always Their silent courage... These were the soldiers who fought a war to end all wars. Why are we still fighting? Your poem speaks to their sacrifices. Joyce |
