I wrote this poem after a I had watched a friend get chewed up by her other friends (and one not-so friend) I had noticed what was going on at first but ignored it and by the time I saw it again it was to late. Never Too Late The game we play each and every day Seems to me again to say Too late It is too late Compassion masked with smiles and jeers Hate speaks softly and pain never tears Too late We love too late Clichés fly through our ignorant ears Apathy feigned, a drug to calm fears Too late they are here Too late Knowledge is needed and action demands Eyes and hearts need feet and hands Too late We know too late We wish that we’d known, but only when we do When masks are undone and love shines though Too late Hating pain, too late For we in our ignorance bring to our neighbour Much pain that should have been loving favour Too late, we realize Too late Love one another; we know that it’s true Again it applies to friends, me and you Too late To stop that pain But not too late to vow anew this day To ourselves find the lighted way Too late But if we can see... Never too late Yay!!! um...he he |

Oh Earl, how I love your poems! They've got great rhyme; nothing seems forced. They just plainly have a great meaning to them. Keep on writing and I would love to hear more from you! TJ [&] she's a blood broken rose |

Compassion masked with smiles and jeers Hate speaks softly and pain never tears wow, i wish i had someone like you around to realise things like that in my life. it was such a sweet poem, my faveorite lines are above, i love them for their blunt truthfulness. just beautiful beautiful beautiful. -Kate and in the daylight i miss the nightmare- but deathly fear it in the dark of night |

(sad smile) I'm afraid that 'hate speaks softly' in everyones life. It angers me you know, how we can't seem to avoid hurting each other. We bumble around pretending to be what we're not and then...when we're hurt, we can't say a thing. "Be Strong and Always Remember what made you you." Earl |

well, umm i guess that's what life means- licking our own wounds while helping others less able lick theirs. -Kate and in the daylight i miss the nightmare- but deathly fear it in the dark of night |

Yeah I wish. But all to often we give others those wounds. Whether we know it or not, whether we help lick them afterwards, we're the reason they're there. It might be life but it dosen't have to be. I wish we would lick each others wounds, I wish we could see them to help with them. But we all cover them up, behind smiles and "it's goin good" there are wounds which we can do nothing for. Thats what makes me mad. That we cover up our wounds for fear they will be made worse. We make ourselves a script of smiles and follow it dutifly regardless of how hurt we become. No one can help and that's why we have so many cases of depression and suicide. "Be Strong and Always Remember what made you you." Earl |

yes yes yes that is true, if only, like you have said, it could be different. frank, your words and ideas are very like the ones i and my friends agree upon. if only things were different. -Kate and in the daylight i miss the nightmare- but deathly fear it in the dark of night |

I wish I had a group of friends who would agree with me on this philosiphy. The trick to accomplishing all that we've talked is empathy. Gaining understanding and understanding love from a lack of secrets, especialy secret emotions. That would be great, wonderful in fact but as we all "know"... What we need to do is get people to support it in actions as well as words. I'm trying, failing, but trying. Lets see if we can get people at school to work on the empathy thing: and most importantly do it ourselves. "Be Strong and Always Remember what made you you." Earl |
