Ride

Riding his bike on the
highways of Arizona
the wind blows
through his hair
and he knows the joys of life
and the happiness of feeling free
as if the world was made for him
and his Harley Davidson.
If only his worn out liver
would hold on for future days,
if only his phone would ring
with a call from an angel,
telling him that he would
be receiving a replacement liver
before his life ebbed away,
before his dying day,
before he missed his hope to survive,
before he lost his future to ride.

for my brother Robert E. Lee
who lost his health, his life,
and his future to ride due to
liver disease.  It took me a
while to write about this...

James, I read this and held my breath for a moment...both to honor your brother,
and because I have stage 4 'secondary' liver cancer, metastasized from the colon cancer discovered and removed last October.
I can say without hesitation, that time is more precious now than it was before the diagnosis.
I am so sorry for your loss. Heart hugs to you.

And he knows, and am sure he enjoyed,
as I, an anthem of friendship with
sweet poetic touch,

Yo James,

You’ve done excellent work writing a poem about your brother.  It’s sad, and very well done.

So sorry about your brother, James. I know how hard it is to write about those we have lost.
