She stays with him
on a familiar path
The trees are the same
just slightly more bent
She climbs the hickory
and surveys her horizon
Upon descent, she curls
her fingers around his
Finds her footprints
from before she cried
and keeps walking

A quality that is not so much diffused anymore. Nowadays, at the first difficulties, couples split. It could be that you are speaking of some pain due to a sad reason though ...

You described endurance so very well and in a poignant way too.

Margherita

Thanks.

I wrote it for a friend's wife. Bob died not long ago of cancer.

TinaTrivett - this is a most beautiful poem, I'm very impressed. The graphic and poem are together, very nice...

How much heart it takes to simply maintain the grasp of fingers and one foot in front of the other....

....a forget-me-not from me to you.  Beautiful poetry.  ~ Klassy

It's difficult to pinpoint those days before we cried. They were somewhere, long ago. Touching poem.
