Goddesses gave the image of beauty--
but it takes a fool not to see in
paintings the form of flesh across
bones-- not there.

But flab all in the right places
knowing how the breasts are free--
the curls falling against the nipples,
and all in the pouring of this oil.

Grapes and wine-- what is it we are now?
no goddess exists today that looks like
the ones in the past-- they'd surely be
turned down as posers, and posers of the
past turned down for models.

So here I am in the musuem admiring how
women used to be.

there are still plenty with the curves in all the right places...

but?

I like this a lot...the women in those paintings seem so much softer than the women that model now...

Its because the women in those paintings were real, no fake hair extenions, no fake nails, plastic surgery, botox, breast implants, fake teeth, eyelashes, eyecolor with contacts,Tanning spray, tatoo makeup on lips or eyebrows, tattoo lipstick, or on drugs to stay thin, like heroin....

They were REAL women....

nice of you to notice them and write about them....

Dear Lee, it's nice to read you again. And I love what you have conveyed with this poem, it shows your sensitivity and your personality, as you don't seem to be a victim of the current standards of beauty imposed by the media. You made me smile with the word "flab", had to check its meaning and in Italian it's "ciccia". I do have some of that and so I thank you for noticing the charms of those Rembrandt women, who are considered totally "out" nowadays. They are appreciated, but only in paintings.

Very nice work.

Love,
