The old man spit some 'baca.

Juice ran down his chin.

He looked into the young man's eyes
and said,
"Say that again."

The young man said,
"It must be nice...
living on that easy money."

He spat again,
frowned a grin,
said,
"Let me tell ya, Honey..."

Don't go thinking
that you've got your end
of something you can't tote.

Every buck you get,
every bill you spend
says that it's a
"Federal" note

Don't go thinking
you're better than me

I'll tell ya somethin', Honey...

I aint never met a soul,
who don't get government money.

You'd best come down
off your high horse,

you stupid little twit...

talking 'bout this"easy money",
I had to bust my back to get.

I laid down some boot prints,
but you sure aint fit to track me.

At one time, I was so dang wild,
my own damn heart attacked me.

Hell, before you ever drew a breath,
I'd ruptured near a dozen discs.

I don't expect no one to care for me,
but the Government insists.

I still know places
where the bass bite best
and catfish den and dine.

I know where the big
bucks lay at rest
and which way
the game trails wind.

I am kind of like the farmer
who knows his soil and field...

I know these rivers, creeks and woods
and what each one can yield.

So, before you go much further,
I think you'd better stop.

I am kind of like the farmer
who gets paid to NOT grow crops
.
No, I do not get a "hand-out"

I guess...to put it blunt...

I live in a land where the Government
pays me not to hunt.

You aint got no dollars
and you aint got no sense.

You're just a little
green horn calf,
that thinks it
owns the fence."

What do they know really!

Though I don't like the vision of an old man (or any man) spitting, I understand his reasons.

You did him justice. Great reality write.

Love,
Margherita

What is gained through a lifetime of living the young can't possibly know. I liked the connection to the land, to really know a place.

Uriah,

You couldn't see me - but I rose from my chair and cheered. I am really enjoying your writing and your thoughts.  Thank you for the treat of reading you.

Alison
