From reaches so free they were called to a war To a bloodthirsty battle that screams evermore Where comrades of freedom and mates by their side Found evil there doing the devil’s abide War is a battle that’s fought by the few That follow through orders that most wouldn’t do And though death’s among them, they keep going on Men, merely mortal with pride that is strong Our Anzac’s they battled but what could they do? Endure what was dealt them and hope to get through Young men who were willing but most were to die Our wars hold to guilt as does man to their lie No war is the last that man will endure As long as we’re here there will be many more But thank God for the men who all give up their right To stay here with freedom and safety in sight To all of the soldiers that war has at call Compared to your promise our duty is small You all hold a spot that is warmed by our heart You’re our backbone and message when trouble does start Today we remember the fallen by war And say thanks to the soldiers we’ll need evermore Through times of great worry you’re here to defend And while you’re among us, you’re here as our friend Australia, New Zealand and allies of peace We honour your loyalty as battles increase And hope in the future you only will train That wars become fruitless as world becomes sane We all shall remember and never forget Our hero’s of battle, in pride we have set And though we can never bring back who are gone We honour their actions in place they belong |

No war is the last that man will endure As long as we’re here there will be many more But thank God for the men who all give up their right To stay here with freedom and safety in sight What a wonderful remembrance for Anzac Day... what a wonderful tribute to all those who've fought or are fighting still. Thank you for this repost, my friend... some words are worth reading again and again. *S* |

Rick, speaking as a Vet, and for all Veterans, "THANK YOU" for this very beautiful poem. This is a special work that should be shared and remembered, and kept before us to help remind those that live free, that it is only by the sacrifice of those willing to lay down their life for others, that we are able to live the lives we do. Again, Thank you. Tracey. |
