Choices

"If able to do it all again"...

Years ago one summer day
met someone wonderful,in teenage thought.
A lifeguard, one who held my heart
in every way, happy moments were brought.

For thirty years and those few before
high on life was our specialty.
Then as happens to some or maybe most
the next ten rained/reigned down unbelievably.

A lustful thought accompanying drink
helped cause the break, leaving a scar.
(No fault of one, for two it takes
or so they say, whover they are).

That today remains, but with tenderness,
understanding and time, can reduce the strain
allowing the past to rise again
remembering what was, to release the pain.

For human we are, and that love long ago
holds unconditional, a kindness in form,
forever pieced in a pattern of quilt
to be blessed in the future keeping one warm.

I've held my own, causing little of pain
knowing once of a love now resting in heart.
If ever asked would I change a thing
I wouldn't at all, at least on my part.

I really enjoyed this poem Maureen and especcially the last verse. Life can be cruel at times but keep the chin up and the sun will shine again for you I know. Love

Not wonder drinking is bad for health. Writing is wonderful, stirring emotions. I think its “whoever they are”.

I know what you mean, Maureen. Love has a way of capturing a heart. And, true love stays forever. Inspite of what happens.

Chalmette Guy, thank you for such a kind response. It has taken alot of effort to reach these feelings.

suthern, thank you...we are actually getting along better than we have in years. I think when the alcohol accompanies a tragedy, it  makes one realize you have to change or you are doomed. I am not happy about the way it happened but at least it is a positive change for him.

steavenr, thank you for  your kind words.

Kacy, I appreciate your kind words and responses. Hope you are  feeling better.

LindsayP, the sun comes up every morning and I am learning to appreciate whatever I have and /or comes my way though the losses are harder to take as one ages.Thank you for your thoughts.

E, hugs to you my friend for knowing and understanding, as always.

Prasad Nataraj,... believe me it has been hard work and often depressing feelings. I am the lucky one who has had enough support to make it through these last few years.

Sue,"true love stays forever" but love also changes and there are so many different kinds of love.

hugs

Bruce, thanks, hope all is well up there. We finally have this beautiful, even though a bit too warm, weather.
