Strategy of the Day

Grief is enigmatic

Familiarity with the game
Should offer some clue
Or hint which path
Might lead to
Ever illusive joy

But there are always
Pieces
Missing from the puzzle

It’s hard to win
When your opponent
Is master dissembler
Harder still to win at life
When there are no rules

Ambiguity
Becomes acceptable
For the alternative is
Hopelessness

Intense scrutiny
Leaves you knowing only
That grief

is

But with forced smile
And dry eyes
You learn to pretend

Step by painful step
Towards a goal unseen
You shuffle along

Continued effort is mandatory
To stop trying
Is not an option

Dedicated to a very dear friend who fills my thoughts and heart today.

"Intense scrutiny
Leaves you knowing only
That grief"

As Queen of the Wallow, I can attest to the truth of this. I have come to a place now, where I realize that grief is now a part of me, and oddly enough, once I gave myself permission to feel the pain, it lessened.

You are dear lady, top ranked as one of my Pipheroes. A Steel Magnolia, for sure.

You...shine.

Yo Suthern,

I really like your last strophe:

"Continued effort is mandatory
To stop trying
Is not an option"

You've got that right Hon.

That is such a sad poem Ruth and when I started to read it, I thought this doesn't sound like Ruth. It was a happy relief to see you were writing about someone else and not yourself. I do feel sorry for the poor lady that inspired your post. Take care my friend, love.

serenity: I've noticed that phenomenon myself. *S* But... it takes time... and when the grief is new, it's hard to believe that time will lessen its grip. *S* Thank you so much!

Bobby, 1slick_lady, Tracey & CM: Thank you so much! *S* Your responses mean a lot to me. *S*

Lindsay: Actually... *S* This was about me... part of an entire series I wrote when trying to cope with losing many family members and several friends in a short 2 year span... an effort, I suppose, to understand this "thing" that seemed to have taken over my life. Quite a few of them are in the archives... I finally decided to quit inflicting them on my friends... just posted this one to let a friend know I know... and I'm here for them. *S* Thank you so much!

Yes, good strategy, this:
But with forced smile
And dry eyes
You learn to pretend

And you have learned that eventually that smile becomes genuine again. Your friend will see that in you.  You have a good heart.

This is a wonderful write, Ruth.  I have previously read your poems on grief and am glad you were able to "write it out".  Never truly "out" is it and as the wheel turns we're all exposed to grief at different times.  What I'm trying to say is that if you feel it write it and there's bound to be someone who can benefit from your insight.

Take care.

Hi Suthern,Getting out of a grief situation is tough and expressing it is even tougher for few. Love the positivity in the end.

Grief is the most personal of human emotions. It stifles regular thoughts and erects barriers to communication.
You have captured it so well; a fine poem, to which all who have been there will relate.

Step by painful step
Towards a goal unseen
You shuffle along
-------------------------------------------

As long as you are moving forward the sight of that goal gets closer as the goal itself does.  The hidden goal is perhaps to offer a chance to find out who we have become and what we will do when we reach it.

A wonderful write from you with some unique and by that I mean GOOD views.
