She is a phantom that haunts my dreams
And appears in my waking day
In my mind I hear her mourning screams
While wishing the memories away
Her footsteps following and echoes remain
Of a voice that gently pulls me in
Is this really happening or am I insane
The odds are thus in my mind even
Somehow there is no fear at this apparition
She appears at her own command
And remains under her own conditions
I even dare to reach her with my hand
All the senses in this way blend together
Yet not the touch which is ever elusive
The image fades as sun dried leather
And me offering words that are effusive
But there is a sense that is heightened
The one that is felt within the breast
A heart that is seized and tightened
And day or night shall not know rest

She is a phantom from the images that linger on
She, who comes into my life, and then is gone
