"The Desert Drunkard" Well I got drunk tonight, off the night sky's milk-thick fountain Made sure to fill each lung to its black and murky rim I came in from the West, where I left more than I bargained Where hounds howl with each hoof-beat framed breath I blow and suck in * "The Patient" My throat spits coarse smells and sickly love-drunk jargon My hands cup the heart-bone necklace posed 'round my neck My mind suggests theories of conflicting regurgitation My eyes recede to hollow bowls of dust colored desert specks * "The Old Man" Sand dunes wisp my brow and cake my heart drum My sickness can't be too off-beat or classified as misused I've fathered a man whose bones I'll forge and mend with reason Whose mere existence makes me wish I'd foraged more wit than I've used * "The Poet" Once the drone of dragging narrative scenes was abandoned I swear, I changed my name to avoid the use of rhyming nouns All my friends said "It suits you well, it kind of sounds like Dylan" You know, a name can't be denied when it rhymes with "slowin' down" * "The Gardner" Condors tilt their beaks to the shimmer of my mind's eye's ashes They picked and gnawed when I muttered "You best leave my dogs alone" I cursed them once again, but my words filtered through mustaches I'm a condor too; my shadow's thicker than my bones |

I really enjoyed each individual scene. Well done indeed. Loved the last stanza! Carpe' Diem, |
