I like routines, I resist change My sister’s husband thinks I'm strange If there’s a gadget to be had He needs it NOW or he’ll go mad! His son is even worse and they Decided that there was no way Our cell phone contract was the best To change our carrier they pressed! Off to the store to shop they went Credit cards smoked, much cash was spent They purchased phones that fit their needs Came home and then confessed their deeds… *insert growling, gnashing of teeth and angst almost beyond belief* You see, I’m on their fam’ly plan And most times, I enjoy my clan But upheaval for change’s sake Might someday my sanity take! (We won’t even discuss expense) For me, it just doesn’t make sense To take my phone that worked just fine And hand me one of new design I didn’t even have a voice My sister and I got no choice! I said goodbye to my old pics And tried to learn this new phone’s tricks Reentering my contacts lists Had my mood in a dark abyss Some older numbers made me cry Just why do loved ones have to die? In need of relief and a smile I took a break and for a while Searched for a ringtone I would like… My thoughts went to LSU’s Mike Now “Hold That Tiger” I can play Any old time of night or day But no one called; I tired of wait And asked my sis to call at eight But though the phone was in my hand No call came through… It seems I can Place calls but my phone doesn’t ring… I’ve now got to replace the thing! Last week I had a working phone Today I have one great ringtone! |

ah, the nightmares of technology! Sometimes I wonder if it will be our end. This poem made me laugh though I know it must be frustrating for you to have to go through this...and I laugh only because I went through it myself. Most upgrades are not needed and we'd all be better off without them. |

I just thought of the first cell phone I got. My brother gave it to me when we were on our vacation at Disney back in 2001. I thought "what in the heck do I need this for?" Within about 3 months, I couldn't be without it. Same with computers. |

PS and SEA: Most of what I post sits around for weeks, months, years or even decades before I give it an airing on the blue pages. *S* But sometimes... a gal's just gotta whine. LOL Thank you so much for enjoying. *S* I guess I should look on the bright side... I can always PRETEND people are calling... usually, I know they're not! LOL |

Oh, I understand this all too well as I am on the family plan and technologically challenged or have no patience. I'm not sure which. Ida |

My first cell phone was a company issued unit. I was on call 24/7. At first, I couldn't wait to use it, Then came the 24/7 aspect. Now I hope my battery goes dead before I can get it to the charger. Still company issue, still 24/7 This still sucks. I have to keep repeating: I love my job, I love my job. 24/7. Thank goodness for the mute button. Tracey. |

You are so cute. Loved this: "*insert growling, gnashing of teeth and angst almost beyond belief*" Indeed! During a sales drive, a certain company was calling my home phone five times a day. Finally out of exasperation, I told the fifth person who called me, "This is fifth call from ya'll today. What makes ya'll think I'm so hard to get a hold of that I need your service???" Arggh. Enjoyed, lovely lovie. |

Marchmadness: With money tight, spending for something I didn't want or need was bad enough... but then for the danged thing to not work? LOL Thank you! *S* Tracey: At least you love your job? LOL I can't wait to escape mine, but at least I DO get to escape it! LOL There are things I'd welcome 24/7... the job isn't one of them. LOL Thank you so much! *S* serenity: I loved your story, loved your argh... and I think you're probably a lot nicer to sales people than I am! LOL Thank you, ma'am... I'll be preening the rest of the day on that 'cute' comment! LOL yeah... I know... muttermutter... I need to get a life! LOL One's not gonna call me on my cell... that's fershure! LOL |

Dear Ruth, it sounds like you are having a spot of bother with your new phone and I commiserate with you. Some of these new fangled things can be very frustrating until you work them out. My sympathy my friend. Love Lindsay |

This was so much fun, and we are so there weather we like it or not eh!!! It's a neat trick trying to rhyme the underlying ironies of a high tech day and age!! Great poem, suthern gal!! |

I know, I know. My son gave me a phone and it was like learning how to use one all over again. I just want something where I can push buttons and someone on the other end says hello. And then if it would ring where I could HEAR it, I would say hello too. Nan (Pilgrim variety) |

ethome: I guess I've been disposed of too much myself to easily trash something that still has worth. LOL Thank you! *S* Lindsay: It was finally resolved... and believe it or not... I WASN'T DOING ANYTHING WRONG! LOL The new carrier had done a poor job of transferring my number. Thanks for reading! *S* Blues: Thank you very much... I had to laugh or throw the thing... and laughing costs less. LOL Pilgrimage: I agree! *S* My new one has all these tempting applications... but guess what??? My bro-in-law decided I didn't need them... so I scroll through screen after screen I can't use to get to my call list... a total waste of time and temper. LOL Thank you! *S* The good news is... the new phone is at last functioning. It suddenly started beeping (scaring my cat who happened to be snoozing on my book bag at the time *G*) and there was a text message saying I could now receive calls. Progress is possible! LOL |

Bill: My sister said her next phone is going to be one of those AARP things with great big numbers and no gadgets. LOL I've just promised to opt off the family plan next time the guys get a wild hair. *G* Thank you so much!! Toerag!!! LOL... :-)~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ha! LOL As much as I'd love to hear your voice, that's asking a bit much! LOL Through the years, I'd even started cheering for the Tide because of you... but then y'all went and hired THAT coach. (I just reached over and played Hold That Tiger as I cursed Nick Satan once again. LOL) Thank you, sweets... it's good to see you here! *S* |

Let's just tap this one back up to the top - I understand the frustration but still had to laugh. I resist change and technology is difficult for me. My phone doesn't take pictures or do anything -- but let me talk. It's all too much for me to think about. A |

Toe: I'll quit cursing him when I run out of breath. LOL And don't laugh too much, my friend. LOL Somewhere out there, someone (or some country! LOL) has even deeper pockets than Bama... when they find him, he'll be kissin' Tuscaloosa goodbye! GEAUX Tigers!!! LOL critical mass: Thank you! *S* EA: I was SUPPOSED to read the manual this weekend... I declined... even if that means I'm now the problem. LOL Thank you!!! *S* (and thank heavens my car keeps her mouth shut! LOL) yann: Thank you so very much... and I'd love to read it when you write it! *S* Margherita: I'm so glad you liked... thank you very much! *S* Martie: And he expected thanks? LOL Thank YOU... and good luck! *S* |

Tring-tring, tring-tring, tring-tring (ordinary and soft ring that won't frighten either of your kitty cats), now that your phone is working! Hello, is that Ruth? This is Owl and Tigger (my tabby - 14 on 15 March this year) and Daisy (my Maltese poodle - will be 14 on 24 May). "We just called to say we love you - and your kitty cats!" Love your poem!!! Owl |

Sounds like my older brother. He LOVES gadgets, especially new cell phones. I enjoy my simple phone and he is always bugging me to "upgrade!" |

Yo dear Suthern, Cell phones are a menace. I wouldn't have one. Carrying one of those things around in a pocket would rob me of the independence I have when I can just leave the house, and not be bothered. Bobby |

"Reentering my contacts lists Had my mood in a dark abyss Some older numbers made me cry Just why do loved ones have to die" I once withered to tears over Chocolate Pinwheel cookies in the middle of the grocery store a long time after my Daddy died. This is an enjoyable piece ~ In just two days, tomorrow will be yesterday! |

Owl: You are such a sweetheart... thank you all... from me and mine. *S* Eloise: I wish my brother-in-law would subscribe to that adage! LOL Thank you! *S* angellea: Do~~~Not~~~Listen! LOL Steve's already wanting me to change still again... wants me to find something I like. I tell him... "I liked my old phone. I like my new ringtone. Leave me alone!" LOL Thank you for reading! *S* Bobby: I understand completely. I initally got one because I'm on the road a lot by myself. But guess what? Every time I've NEEDED a phone, I've gotten the "no service" message... and had to hike to a land line. *G* Quiet Waters: It's those little things that "get" you, isn't it? I understand the grocery store meltdown completely... mine was when I realized I'd put apple juice into my cart... several months after my Daddy's death. Thank you so very much for understanding the hardest part of this change. *S* Mysteria: Thank you so much! *S* |
